School Reopening and COVID FAQ’s Video
Over on Youtube, President John Abeigon and Director of Research Mike Maillaro put together a twenty question FAQ from the surveys we received from our members discussing School Reopening and Covid-19. As more information comes out from the state and district, we will likely be adding more videos. This is our first attempt at video content. Let us know how we did!
When Gov. Hogan proposed to solve the state’s fiscal challenges on the backs of state employees, MPEC stood tall and fought back. President Jerry Smith quickly mobilized the membership to engage in a massive lobbying campaign to members of the Board of Public Works to reject hundreds of millions of dollars in cuts to state workers. Following intense letter writing and phone calling efforts, MPEC held a caravan outside of the Maryland State Treasurer’s Office to encourage Treasurer Nancy Kopp and Comptroller Peter Franchot to reject the proposed cuts.

MPEC represents 5,000 state employees across a number of agencies throughout the state including but not limited to the Department of Natural Resources, Department of Juvenile Services, and the State Highway Administration.

The BCFPE membership voted to approve the FY2021 contract by a 94.1% vote, guaranteeing no layoffs, no furloughs, and guaranteed funding of steps and longevity. These guarantees are not promised to our State Union brothers and sisters who potentially face:
The City Union of Baltimore continues to try to protect members as best as possible while they continue to provide essential services to the citizens of Baltimore. President Antoinette Ryan-Johnson and organizer Janell Edmonds made drop offs of essential personal protective equipment (PPE) to two locations where members are still on the job.
The Maryland Professional Employees Council, a state employee union made up of working professionals will hold a rally and caravan today to oppose Gov. Hogan's budget cuts.
State employees will be available for interviews to hear directly from them how they will be affected by Gov. Hogan's cuts.
