We are the Detroit Association of Educational Office Employees (DAEOE), an affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers.  We don’t work in the classroom, but the classroom wouldn’t work without us.

Our members have dedicated years of time, hard work and attention to make sure our schools run efficiently and effectively, and provide high-quality educational services for Detroit’s students and their families.

Our years of dedicated service to the Detroit Public Schools (DPS) and now Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) have given us valuable experience and motivation for school reform.

We know our schools can be improved, and we believe in the potential for success.

We have invested in Detroit’s schools, and we know that strong schools are essential to building a stronger community.

This is a charming piece of work released by the State House Republicans on 5/16...keep in mind, the group who released this is only 4 votes short of control in the State House. Due to the recent free-fall in tax revenue, the current fiscal year has fallen into a deficit of roughly $350 million.  In response to the tax shortfall and the inability to achieve a legislative budget, the Governor’s Office has found it necessary to begin the process of layoffs in order to cut expenses.  These layoffs are the beginning of the budget mitigation plan and we expect nearly 4,200 layoffs in order to achieve the level of savings required to balance the budget.
